Period Underwear Fit FAQs
How should period underwear fit?
Your period underwear should feel secure and comfortable, like your favourite everyday underwear. It should sit smoothly against your body so the absorbent gusset stays in the right place, without digging in, rolling down or feeling restrictive.
A good fit helps the underwear stay close to your body and gives the absorbent area the best chance to provide reliable protection.
Should I size up in period underwear?
Start with your usual underwear size and check the size guide before ordering.
You may prefer to size up if you are between sizes, prefer a softer and more relaxed fit, have a fuller tummy, or do not like underwear that feels close-fitting around the legs or waist.
For the most secure fit, especially on heavier-flow days or overnight, choose the size that gives you a comfortable but close fit around the leg openings.
Should period pants feel tight?
No. Period pants should feel fitted, but never uncomfortably tight.
The absorbent gusset needs to sit close enough to your body to provide good coverage, but you should still be able to move, sit, sleep and go about your day comfortably. If the waistband digs in, the leg openings feel restrictive or you are constantly adjusting them, try the next size up or a different style.
How do I know whether the absorbent area is in the right place?
When you put your period underwear on, the absorbent gusset should sit where you naturally need protection. It should lie flat against your body without folding, twisting or sitting too far forward or back.
Everyone’s body is different, so it is completely normal to prefer one style for daytime and another for sleeping. Some people need more front coverage, while others prefer extra coverage towards the back for overnight use.
Why does my period underwear feel loose around the legs?
A loose fit around the legs can allow the underwear to move during the day, which may make the absorbent area sit away from your body.
Try checking the size guide and consider sizing down if the waistband is also loose. If the waist feels right but the legs are loose, a different style may give you a better fit.
Why does my period underwear dig in?
Digging in usually means the underwear is too small for your preferred comfort level, or the style is not right for your body shape.
Try sizing up, especially if you are between sizes or prefer a less fitted waistband. You may also find that a higher-waisted style gives you a more comfortable and secure fit.
Can I wear period underwear overnight?
Yes. For overnight use, choose a style with the absorbency and coverage that suits your flow.
Make sure the underwear fits securely around the waist and legs so the absorbent gusset stays in place while you sleep. If you tend to leak towards the front or back overnight, choose a style with wider or longer coverage in the area where you need it most.
Can I wear period underwear for sport or exercise?
Yes. Period underwear can be a comfortable option for walking, gym sessions, yoga, pole, running and everyday movement.
For active days, choose underwear that feels secure around the legs and waist without restricting movement. The best fit should stay in place when you stretch, squat, sit and move.
What should I do if my period underwear leaks?
First, check the fit. The underwear should sit close to your body, with the absorbent area flat and positioned correctly.
Leaks can also happen when the absorbency level is not enough for your flow, the underwear has reached its capacity, or you need more coverage at the front or back. Try a higher-absorbency style, change sooner, or choose a style designed for heavier flow or overnight wear.
Can I wear a pad with period underwear?
Yes. Some people use a reusable pad alongside period underwear for extra confidence on very heavy days, during travel or overnight.
Choose a pad that sits smoothly inside the underwear and make sure it does not create uncomfortable bulk. Period underwear can also be worn on its own when the absorbency level is suitable for your flow.
How can I find my best style?
Think about when and how you will wear them.
Choose a higher-waisted style if you like more tummy coverage. Choose a boxer style if you prefer more coverage around the hips and thighs. For everyday wear, choose the shape that feels most like your usual underwear. For heavy days or nights, choose the style with the coverage and absorbency that gives you the most confidence.
It is completely normal to build a small mix of styles for different days of your cycle.
